  • More emphasis on the potential of harm to patients

  • Links between relational security and trauma

  • Expanded service and leadership outcome measures

  • More reflective practice prompts

  • Guidance on how to construct a health outcome

  • How to map and evaluate the patient mix

  • Understanding the signatures of key events

  • How we use language and humour in our services

  • Preparing for therapeutic conversations

  • How we and patients use the environment

  • A meaning role for family and friends

  • Physical and digital connections outside the service.

 Relational Security Explorer

Relational Security Explorer Wheel

This is the second edition authored and published in 2015 by Elizabeth Allen and the Royal College of Psychiatry

The Explorer was developed for staff to bring what they've learned in training to a discussion with the rest of the team about:

  • How things feel on the ward

  • How confident the team feel in the areas identified

  • What more they need to do to improve.

For newer editions of the Explorer such as leadership, supervision, serious events, incident debriefing, and handover, see Licensed Resources
